E-commerce giant Alibaba Group Holding Ltd reported more than $9 billion in sales on China’s Singles’ Day on Tues., illustrating the buying power of the Chinese consumer and the importance of the event in the retail calendar. Alibaba turned Singles’ Day, a Nov. 11 Chinese response to Valentine’s Day, into an online shopping festival in 2009. (Reuters)


Verizon announces ‘Connection Day’ with digital freebies

Verizon plans a new celebration this year called “Connection Day” on November 26, the day before Thanksgiving. Verizon customers who register immediately will get one free gigabyte of data added to their phone plans, and even non-customers can enjoy Connection Day by downloading the free FiOS Preview app to access free popular movies and TV shows on November 26th.
