A male coworker of mine sent me the link to Luxaddiction, an ecommerce retailer of blinged out and bedazzled cases for phones and tablets. Now, why my deskmate Louis is browsing for rhinestone-studded iPhone cases, well… I just didn’t ask. The important thing here is that this retailer offers the option to customize a case, but then leaves the shopper hanging. This is obviously not good at all. Take a look at what I mean.
From the home page, I used the top navigation to head to the iPad Cases section of the site. I was pretty amazed by the crystal encrusted cases I came across here. So much bling! As I scrolled down to the bottom of the page, I saw the custom design option. This is an awesome feature, so I had to check it out.
When I got to the product detail page, I was a bit confused. How do I create a custom design? There are no options for me to upload a photo or an image for Luxaddiction to copy. There isn’t even a field where I can type in a description of what I want. The only drop-down menu provides options to select which model of iPad I have. Basically, I’m not sure where the customization comes in at all.
I tried adding this item to my cart to see if perhaps the customization options would appear in the cart review page of this ecommerce site. As you can see below, there isn’t anything here either.
Obviously, offering customization on products is a great feature. Many shoppers love to create their own personalized product. However, this tool is only useful if it actually works! I recommend that Luxaddiction provides an easy way for customers to create their custom design. Adding in the option to upload a picture or image, a field to type in any descriptions or notes, and providing contact information for the company, would all be helpful updates. These additions would help to assure the shopper that they’re actually getting the product they want. Without that assurance, it’s doubtful they’ll be making that purchase!
